Casting - Drama Facilitators
Our vision and mission
Every child’s imagination should be inspired by the arts. Our mission is to use the skills of professional theatre to provide highly creative learning experiences to children which they will remember forever.
Values
We value creativity, efficiency, fairness and ongoing relationships between our performers, the company and our customers.
The work
We are looking for drama facilitators (or trained actors with teaching experience) to join our existing team leading Shakespeare and Drama workshops in primary schools.
We are about to head into a very busy period in March 2020 and plan to audition and recruit our ever-widening pool of facilitators who are interested in working with us.
The work is very popular and well received by schools; many facilitators continue to work for us throughout the year, and the work is well paid.
The work is nationwide. Applicants are welcome and encouraged from throughout the UK.
The initial training days (in London) for the work in March are set for the half-term week in February (17th-21st) with a possible date the following week if we need it!
What we are looking for...
Experienced drama facilitators, or actors with teaching experience.
An infectious passion and enthusiasm for storytelling.
Teaching experience, ideally of primary school aged children. We will consider great candidates with little teaching experience, in which case additional training will be provided!
The ability to work quickly with groups of children (typically up to 30).
Strong communicators who get on well with people.
Time keeping, planning and organisation skills.
You must either have a recent enhanced DBS check dated after 31st March 2017 or be happy for us to submit you for one. This must be clean (and not include any spent cautions or convictions for violent behaviour.)
Ideally you will be able to drive and have a clean-ish driving licence and your own car - but this is not necessary.
What you'll do!
Our workshops are devised by Abi Rosser. The Shakespeare Today workshops gives children the chance to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream or Romeo and Juliet (in a day!) while our Drama Workshops are designed so the children explore popular books and fairytales through drama games.
Click here to read about Shakespeare Today and here to read about the content of the Drama Workshops and how we describe them to schools.
On a typical day you will:
travel to a school which could be some distance from home - perhaps staying nearby the night before;
work with up to seven classes in 30-40 minute sessions during the school day. The children are aged from 4 to 11 years (Reception to Year 6 in England). You will be leading various games and teaching the children to explore and understand the characters and the story to which you and they can have input during the session.
(For Shakespeare) complete the day with a 'performance', bringing everyone together again (including teachers) so the children can perform their parts in sequential order to create the whole play.
You will deliver the workshops on your own so need to be a confident and engaging representative of the company to the Head Teacher and other school staff.
All travel and accommodation expenses are covered and pay is on a good day rate.
