Casting - Drama Facilitators

The work

We are casting for drama facilitators (or trained actors with teaching experience) to join our existing team leading drama workshops in primary schools from late October 2018.

Initially you will need good availability between 29th October and 16th November. Work is flexible and ongoing throughout the school year, with another particularly busy period during March 2019 if the earlier work has gone well for you and us.

Applicants are welcome from throughout the UK.

Auditions will be on the afternoon of Wed 10th October in London.

There will be a 3 hour training session in the w/c 15th October. This will focus on how to deliver a specific workshops, rather than on teaching skills.

What we are looking for... 

• Trained, experienced drama facilitators and actors.
• An infectious passion and enthusiasm for classical text and storytelling.
• Teaching experience, ideally of primary school aged children. 
• Strong communicators who get on well with people.
• Time keeping, planning and organisation skills.
• You must either have a recent enhanced DBS check dated after November 2015 or be happy for us to submit you for one.You will show this form to us, and take it on each school visit. In most cases we, and schools, will require this to be clean. Please contact us in confidence in advance of applying if you need to discuss this. 
• Ideally you will be able to drive and have a cleanish driving licence and your own car - but this is not necessary.

What you'll do!

Our workshops are devised by Abi Rosser. In November the work involves two kinds of workshops:

• Poetry and Poppies: These workshops give children the opportunity to explore and perform Poems and Prose from World War One. 
• Anti Bullying: Through drama-based games and facilitated storytelling exercises children explore and celebrate what makes them unique, identify different types of bullying and imagine how this makes others feel.

On a typical day you will:

• travel to a school which could be some distance from home - perhaps staying nearby the night before;
• work with up to seven classes in 30-40 minute sessions during the school day. The children are aged from 4 to 11 years (Reception to Year 6 in England). You will be leading various games and teaching the children to explore and understand the characters and the story to which you and they can have input during the session.
• (For Poetry and Poppies) complete the day with a 'performance', bringing everyone together again (including teachers) so the children can perform their poems in sequential order to create the story of World War One. 

 
You will deliver the workshops on your own so need to be a confident and engaging representative of the company to the Head Teacher and other school staff.

All travel and accommodation expenses are covered and pay is £100/half day and £150/full day. The training day is unpaid.
